JC Shurburtt and Phil “Mad Dog” Mullinax get you ready for the day’s University of South Carolina Gamecocks game with The Tailgate Show from Inside the Gamecocks.

The Tailgate Show is a fast-paced, funny and interactive listen that usually airs prior to the actually pregame shows across college football and on the Gamecock Sports Network stream.

Simply put, it’s a pregame show for the pregame shows.

Air time depends on the Gamecocks kickoff time, but the guys rarely air after the early kicks around the country at Noon eastern.

The Tailgate Show features five primary segments during the approximately one-hour stream.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

That’s one of the most important things before the game, right? What’s on the menu features tailgating tips and recipes, what JC and his family are eating that day, what Phil and his family are eating that day and of course, what the loyal listeners and members of Gamecock Nation (along with a few brave fans of other schools like Georgia and Arkansas who listen) are cooking up prior to taking in that day’s South Carolina Gamecocks action.

THE UNIFORM REPORT

For South Carolina, a school that has two primary colors and switches the combination up often, the discussion about uniforms that week is a big one. Provided the guys get the scoop or help from the official Gamecock Football X account, they bring you that day’s uniform combination as the Gamecocks go off to battle in the Southeastern Conference (and four other games in football). Will it be garnet or black or a throwback? The Tailgate Show lets you know.

THE INJURY REPORT

The most unfortunate segment of the Tailgate Show is the injury report. In SEC football this season, programs are required to update an injury report and share it publicly. The latest update comes the night before the game and the guys bring that to you, discuss the ramifications and even give you a little scoop on what they are hearing behind the scenes. This is one segment that we all wish we did not have to have, but it’s part of sports.

ONE SMALL THING

What is the most petty thing you are worried about heading into the game? Is it the aforementioned uniform combo? Did your favorite shirt not make it out of the dryer in time? Do you hope Lee Corso picks for or against South Carolina? Are you looking for the sun to be in a certain place? We get it! It makes you feel good about the game even if it seems a little off beat and petty. Each game, we share the most ridiculous non-impactful hope that is important to us and in some cases just us and invite all Gamecock fans to share in the moment.

ONE BIG THING

Usually it’s one-word answer but what is the biggest key to victory for South Carolina? Sometimes it’s the same thing several games in a row. Sometimes it is different. At this point in the show, Mad Dog and JC get to the point as these are the final breakdown thoughts the pair will give before the game gets real.

Of course, JC and Mad Dog love to mix it up in the Chat Box so if Club Chief members or others have questions that are relevant to the game or some hot takes that are worthy of sharing, we have got you covered.
