The Spartanburg High School Vikings first two games of the 2025 season feature two huge match-ups against fellow top three (Massey Ratings) teams.

The Vikings season opener is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, against No. 2 Northwestern at Doc Davis Field at Viking Stadium on the campus of Spartanburg High School. The following week, the Vikings travel to the Midlands to face top-ranked Dutch Fork. Kickoff in Irmo is also at 7:30.
The contest against the Silver Foxes will be a revenge game of sorts. Dutch Fork eliminated Spartan High in the third round of the South Carolina AAAAA playoffs last season with a 24-0 shutout win.
The Class AAAAA, Region 2 opener is Sept. 19 on the road against Greenville County opponent Eastside in Taylors.

Spartanburg finished 9-3 a season ago under sixth-year head coach Mark Hodge and posted a 5-1 region record.

Spartanburg is one of the most successful programs in the high school football history of the Palmetto State. The school has won seven state championships, the most recent coming in 2014. From 1994-96, Spartanburg won three straight state titles. Other title seasons include 1932, 1991 and 2001.
Spartanburg High moved to a new campus off of East Main Street in Spartanburg in 2019 and for the first time in decades plays home football games on campus. Prior to 2019, the Vikings played at Wofford College’s Gibbs Stadium and Snyder Field, respectively.
