One of the players that facilitated South Carolina’s reputation as “The New DBU” since the turn of the century is cornerback Dunta Robinson. The Athens, Ga., native, was an unheralded recruit that the Gamecocks coaching staff led by Lou Holtz found after Carolina posted a program-worse 0-11 mark in 1999 (Class of 2000). Robinson was the 10th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.
Of note to listeners of Inside the Gamecocks- Robinson was in the same recruiting class as frequent guest and former Gamecock captain John Strickland, who played offensive line for South Carolina under Holtz during the same time.
Robinson is this week’s guest on Tailgate Talks with Gamecock legends Stephen Garcia and Pat DiMarco.

Also, the guys dive into the 2025 South Carolina Gamecocks’ season opener, which kicks off at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta against Virginia Tech.
You can also catch Tailgate Talks each Wednesday morning on the Chief Sports App (podcast and audio version) or if you are member, it streams on Gamecocks Plus. Be sure to mash the subscribe button on the Tailgate Talks YouTube Channel.
