Needless to say, it’s a new direction on offense for the Gamecocks, who had one of the worst offenses in college football in 2025, slipping to a 4-8 overall record and 1-7 in the SEC despite having an elite quarterback talent in LaNorris Sellers and plenty of playmaking ability at the skill positions on the roster.
Briles is a stark departure from the previous four offensive coordinators that head coach Shane Beamer has named to the position since 2021 as his hurry-up, no huddle “Veer and Shoot” attack plays with an insanely fast tempo. Previous coordinators Mike Bobo (left for Auburn before coaching under Beamer), Marcus Satterfield, Dowell Loggains and Mike Shula were not tempo or spread coaches.
